End-of-year notes:

  • The number of homicides in 2016 is down from the 162 in 2015, but up from 107 in 2014, 105 in 2013, and the record low of 86 in 2012.  
  • 2016 was the second deadliest year, after 2015, since 2009 when DC recorded 144 homicides.  
  • Two of the 137 victims in 2016 have not yet been identified. One from August 8 and one from December 23.
  • There are nine additional deaths that are pending investigation and have not been classified as homicides.
